Being the new competitor of the HTC Touch Pro, the XPERIA X1 was released two months ago in October.

In comparison, the XPERIA X1 is both longer and wider than the Touch Pro, while it’s actually looks narrower when put side by side. The phone runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, which is the most common operating system in the PDA phones nowadays.

The X1 is dominated by a large sensitive touchscreen, supporting 480 x 800 pixels, which is an ideal resolution for web surfing. It displays colours more vividly than the Touch Pro.

Unlike many rival devices, the slide out QWERTY keyboard is an ergonomic ‘Arc slider’, meaning that the XPERIA curves when it opens, allowing a better typing position.

The unit certainly is a feature packed device. Inside, this handheld supports quadband GSM with triband UMTS and HSDPA with a fast speed of up to 7.2Mbps.

It comes with WiFi for wireless Web surfing and Bluetooth which supports A2DP for stereo headphones. Thus, turbo 3G provides the speed you need to access to the Internet, either through a wireless hotspot or your cellular phone.

For navigation, this smartphone has built in GPS together with AGPS for quick discovery of satellites, so it can be used with a compatible satellite navigation application. On the back there is a 3.2 MP camera with autofocus and flash fro video and image capturing. This is a 3G handset that is caplable of video calling too.

The XPERIA also has customisable ‘panel’ interface designed for fingertip navigation. Pressing the Panel shortcut will bring up the view where you can pick one to replace the default Windows Mobile Today screen. For instance, one of the panel is specifically designed for listening to the FM radio with RDS.
In this way, you can style the panel display to suit your needs and enjoy seamless access to the information and applications of your choice.

Also bundled into the X1 is pocket versions of office applications such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. Additionally, It supports push email, RSS newsreader and Internet Explorer for web browsing.
In our opinion, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is attractive and worth to have a look at it even though it is highly priced.
